Record 6 2004-01-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

Layer adjacent to the Earth's surface which is mixed by convection or frictionally-induced turbulence or both.

CONT

Mixing depth. The thickness of the atmospheric layer near the surface in which air pollutants are dispersed by turbulence. At the top of the mixing layer a barrier to the dispersion is often formed by a temperature inversion.

OBS

mixed layer ... sometimes called convective mixed layer, convective boundary layer, or mixing layer in air-pollution meteorology. ... The terms mixed layer, convective mixed layer, and convective boundary layer commonly imply only the buoyantly stirred layer.

Key term(s)
  • atmospheric mixed layer

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

Current knowledge about the spatial variation of atmospheric nitrogen deposition on a local scale is limited, especially for vegetation with a low canopy.

CONT

Pooling termite data from these sampling dates, in the old plantation, the high canopy cover treatment (192 stems ha-1) had a greater abundance of termites, compared with the low canopy cover treatment (64 stems ha-1).
